Andhra University is one of the oldest and premier Universities in the country and was established in 1926. Sir C.V.Raman, Prof. Janaanda, Prof. Ludwig Wolf, Prof. Mahadevan, Prof. Srinivasa Iyyengar are some of the world renowned scientist and scholars associated with the University. Second president of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radha Krishna has served as second Vice-Chancellor for the university. The Government of United Andhra Pradesh sanctioned Dr. B. R. Ambedkar PG Center at Etcherla, Srikakulam district in 1977 for which the seeds of higher education were sown to the downtrodden people and most backward district of Srikakulam. In 1978-79 Academic year was started in 49 acre land Dr. B. R. Ambedkar PG Center campus of Andhra University with two courses namely Economics and Rural Development.
