JIS University, West Bengal has been established through the JIS University Act, 2014 (West Bengal Act XXII of: 2014) and vide Government of West Bengal Notification No.86-Edn(U)/OM-4L/2013, dated 3rd February 2015. The Act came into force by the Order of the Governor on 3 rd February 2015. The University is also enlisted in the list of Private Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.

Qualification and Experience Required

  • A search committee has been constituted by the Chancellor of JIS University for the appointment of the Vice Chancellor pursuant to the provisions of JIS University Act. 
  • A person possessing the highest level of competence, integrity, morals and institutional commitment is to be appointed as vice-Chancellor. 
  • He/She should be a distinguished academician with a minimum of ten years of experience in the University system of which at least five years should be as Professor or ten years of experience in a reputed Research or Academic organisation of which at least five years should be in an equivalent position of Professor. 
  • Present and former Vice Chancellors of the State and Central Universities, Heads of academic and Research Institutions and eminent scholars are invited to nominate eligible persons.
